ShuckShuck-Vancouver’s Latest Oyster Bar Holds the Pearl.

There’s one thing that every restaurant needs to survive in Vancouver: fantastic food. That’s precisely what Chinatown’s newest oyster bar- ShuckShuck is built on. Non-pretentious, creative, ingredient-focused oysters, for the oyster enthused and the oyster averse alike. This refreshingly unfussy and warm environment makes everybody beyond welcome instantaneously. The cozy yet ultra-modern room stands out amongst the sea (no pun intended) of other bro-oyster cult-esque spaces that are somehow dominant in the Vancouver fresh food scene. ShuckShuck is sandwiched between some of the best restaurants in the city such as Kissa Tanto, Bao Bei and Sai Woo.

They are more than happy to be the place for appetizers or aperitifs before or after an onslaught of rich food over candlelight. Even though oysters are appreciated as the delicacy they truly are at ShuckShuck, the new joint also celebrates the raw gem’s other attributes as well. For example, adorable paintings of oysters are draped across the walls celebrating the ocean’s pearl in all of its glory. This includes oysters being: non-binary, incredibly sustainable, and bursting with protein and nutrients.

Another spectacular rarity that ShuckShuck provides is serving individual oysters as tiny yet powerful meals in their own right. They do offer classic oysters with fresh garnish they wonderfully refer to as “Topless items”  but more impressively serve excellent and distinctive fixings for individual celebrations of flavour. This includes oysters appropriately named- ‘Topped Oysters’ such as- ‘Peeking Duck’, ‘The Big Mac’, ‘You Jerk’, ‘See-Vee-Che’, Lemon Meringue’ and one of my personal faves- ‘PB & J.’ These shots must be the world’s way of apologizing for 2020.

If this isn’t enough for a symphony of fresh aphrodisiacs you have always dreamed of- they also serve booze infused oyster shots that hit all the right spots. These said holy shots include a ‘Ceaser’, ‘Heart and Seoul’, ‘Kuchisabischii’ and a ‘Margarita.’ Each of which is truly innovative, delicious and instantly transfixing. They aren’t for the faint at heart, but what is in the world that instantly induces goosebumps? 

You can also find other boozy options, non-alcoholic “shots” (such as Gazpacho) and other excellent food items like a lovely clam chowder that could warm up even the coldest heart. ShuckShuck also offers an exceptional happy hour which showcases a beautiful variety of all they have to offer at an equally delicious price.
